The importance of grand parents
Grandparents are very important people. Often we relate the term with getting old
and dependent, but as we can see these days, many people are fit and working even at the age of 70. Becoming
grandparent’s means having crossed many phases of life- childhood, adulthood, parenthood and
grandparenthood.
Through all these phases, they have seen so many things and have had many
experiences. They have learned a lot and gained wisdom and knowledge through all their experiences. As we grow old,
we start knowing ourselves and the world better. It is thus important that this wisdom be passed to the future
generation, their grandchildren.
We all love our grandparents. Their image is of caring and loving people who have
many interesting stories to tell. They play a very important role in moulding their grandchildren’s character and
the way they see this world. . It is their duty to grow their grandchildren into respectful humans with the wisdom
and values of generations intact in them. This generation is much closer to culture and traditions and the young
children learn about values and morals from them. They learn about faith, charity and kindness.
As they are the oldest members of the family, who become the role models as well
as mentors to their grandchildren and it is very important that they teach them about the true meaning of being a
family. They must enlighten them about their origin. Children feel proud when they learn about the achievements of
their family in the past and are motivated to work for their future.
These days, most of the parents are too busy with their work that they are not
able to spend much time with their children, which is quite unfair. Their career comes first to them and then their
children. Children, in absence of proper care and attention tend to go in the wrong direction. Thus, the older
generation has an important role to play in the upbringing of children.
They have seen life closely and know what needs to be done in which situation.
Grandchildren can always ask for their help and suggestions whenever they are confused about anything. As they have
time and patience, they must keep a close eye on their grandchildren and tell them what is right and what is wrong
when required. They have knowledge of how to deal with problems, tensions and pressures that one goes through in
different phases and this knowledge must be passed to their grandchildren with love and care.
Parents often pressurize their children to do better in many things and do
not realize that what effect this can have on their tender minds. Old people have already experienced parenthood
and know very well what effects can this have on the children it is therefore grandparents’ duty to make their
children realize when they are wrong and teach them the knack with which they must deal with their kids. They
become patient with time and know exactly how they should motivate their grandchildren and bring out their
best.
